It will take you 20-30 minutes to walk along the coast road to the village of Scala. It is a lovely walk in the early evening and if you prefer you can catch a taxi back later.

You will be made to feel very welcome in the village and it won’t take you long to find your way around.

There is a good choice of restaurants and bars along the coast road and in the village. Remember that Pelagos Bay also serves food in the evening to save you going out and we are also situated beside two very popular traditional Greek tavernas.

• The nearest supermarket to Pelagos Bay Hotel is about 10 minutes walk away in the direction of the village.
• Before the supermarket you will pass the cake shop “Sugaro” .
• There are two bakeries on the main street in the village selling feta cheese pies, bougatsas, croissants etc.
• The kiosk (periptero) is halfway up the main street by the church if you need to buy cigarettes.
• Taxis wait on the beach road at the bottom of the steps leading up to the village square.
• Scala’s pharmacy is on the main street higher up than the church. There is also another pharmacy in Poros.
• There is a Medical Centre in the village and also a private doctors’ surgery next to the pharmacy. The nearest hospital is in Argostoli.
• Your nearest Bank is in Argostoli but there are many cashpoints in Scala.
• The Post Office is in Poros, a short drive away.
• Buses to Poros will stop outside the hotel entrance but there is only one a day and only in high season. It is also possible to get to Argostoli and Katelios by bus but again the times are infrequent.
• Scala’s main street is strictly pedestrianised and there is a one way system in the village so take care to follow the signs!
• There are many tavernas and bars on the main street but also other excellent ones tucked away down the side streets so make sure you explore. Walking in to Scala you will also pass two traditional tavernas beside our hotel and several more restaurants along the coast road.
